No Place of Publication.. Circa 1850s.. Intaglio engravings with original handcolor, images approximately 6 1/2 x 5 inches on sheets 11 x 7 1/2 inches. Very small tears and chipping to edges of some sheets and light foxing to several, mostly outside image area. Overall very good condition. The six engravings are precise renderings of six different plants with medicinal properties, showing roots, leaves, flowers, and stamen. From an unknown botanical publication, they are numbered as follows: Figure 71, foxglove; Figure 65, cyclamen; Figure 9, aloe; Figure 11, almond; Figure 17, wolf's bane; Figure 55, autumn crocus. .

A few short edge tears, soft crease to three corners (outside plate area) and minor chip to lower left corner; good, clean condition. Elegant and richly colored image of an exotic reddish-pink and yellow flowering plant complete with botanical details. Plate 9 from the scarce publication "Flore d'Amerique dessinée d'apres nature sur les lieux. Riche collection de plantes les plus remarquables, fleurs & fruits de grosseur & de grandeur naturelle." The subtitle notes: "La alpinie a fleurs pendantes repand une odeur de Lavande ambree: cette plante fleurit deux fois par an" identifying the source of the name of the flower from its lavander-like odor. The plant is depicted life-size. Denisse lived in the French West Indies where he collected and documented plants of the region. .
