Istanbul: Emel. No date. Ca. 1958.. Color map of Istanbul 14 x 19 ½ inches on sheet size 19 ½ x 26 ½ inches, which also contains sepia photos of the city and several advertisements. Adjacent to the map is a rectangular map of the Bosphorus 14 x 2 ¾ inches. Text is in French and English. Map is in good clean condition, with an addressed paper band on covers, with stamps, used to mail the map; it could readily be removed. Map depicts the Sea of Marmara, the Golden Horn, and the Bosphorus. Numerous pictorial images identify locales of interest. These include the Seraglio Palace, the Aquaduct of Valence, numerous consulates, Beyazit Square etc. .

Two very small foxing spots at right side of top border. Overall very good condition. The map was published by Samuel Walker in his edition of M. Malte Brun’s "System of Geography, Containing a Description of all the Empires, Kingdoms, States, and Provinces in the Known World." Below An attractive and very informative map. .

Additional text on cover references a "Tourist Map of Jordan" and "Guide Map of Jerusalem"; these back to back color maps unfold on sheet size 23 ¼ x 16 ¼ inches. Both maps in very good clean condition. Map of "Old City of Jerusalem" (dated 1955) identifies the Christian, Moslem, Jewish, and Armenian Quarters of the city plus the Dome of the Rock area. Armistice Line indicates Israel to the west and a "Demilitarized Zone" to the east. Small inset map of Bethlehem in lower right corner. On verso is Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (dated 1953) with Jewish Occupied Palestine to the west and Syria to the north. Small inset map features the region’s International Boundaries. Map in excellent clean condition. An uncommon map duo. Note on rear cover states "Printed in Egypt by S.O.P. Press (Société Orientale de Publicité)" Additional text provides details of travel restrictions, information on visas, etc. .

Brochure measures 9 ½ x 4 ½ inches and unfolds to two maps, each on sheet size 18 ¾ x 26 inches. A pictorial map of West Pakistan appears on one side while a pictorial map of East Pakistan appears on verso. Features on each map include photographs and information on motor routes between major centers. Brochure with maps in very good clean condition. WorldCat lists only one library holding from this date, but it also appears a map with this title was published over a period of several years. .

Tehran, Iran.: Ministry of Roads.. 03- 1962.. Double-sided color roadmap of Iran; English on one side and Persian on the other; folded to 9 x 4 inches. When open, map and decorative images measure 27 x 36 inches. Five inset maps, the largest (4 ½ x 6 ¼ inches) depicting Tehran. The map is in good condition overall, with breaks at three or four folds and light abrasion at top of the folded front cover. Summary: When the map was created, the Shah of Iran had been on the throne for over 20 years. With the Revolution of 1979 the Shah fled the country, taking refuge, first in Egypt, then moving on to other locales, resigned to a peripatetic existence. He ultimately returned to Egypt where he succumbed to cancer in 1980. An uncommon map; a copy in the Library of Congress is dated 1963. .

Six panel folded brochure, each panel (double-sided) 9 ¼ x 4 ½ inches, dated 1952, the year the Free Officers Movement (Muhammad Naguib and Gamal Abdel Nasser) brought the Egyptian monarchy to an end. King Farouk, forced to abandon the throne, departed for Italy on July 26, 1952. The constitutional monarchy, nearing an end, would emerge as the Republic of Egypt. A most interesting brochure, in very good clean condition, dating from a moment of historic transformation. The booklet features a one-panel pictorial map of the Nile from "Soudan" to the Mediterranean. The Egypt described in this brochure, dated 1952, is descriptive of a world coming to a close. Text in the brochure advises that "the tourist can spend a happy time attending every year the most famous opera and ballet companies and enjoying Sporting clubs which are scattered in all centres"; also, "Music-Halls and Cabarets give excellent shows. Dinner dances are given in the hotels and restaurants all night." The unanticipated end of British dominance makes this publication of considerable historical interest. .

Brochure provides invaluable information for the tourist: historical information relating to cities and iconic sites; information on passports and visas, information on currency, transport, climate, etc. The two pictorial maps are of particular interest, providing documentation of the two regions of the country before partition and the creation of Bangladesh in the 1970s. .

Kurt Lubinski (1899-1969) was a photojournalist who emigrated from Germany to The Netherlands in 1933 and to the United States in 1943. .

A handsome folding map, showing Turkey, Persia, Syria, Iraq, the Northeastern edge of Egypt, Trans-Jordan, Kuwait and the Persian Gulf, and covers the area from coordinates 28 to 41 degrees north and 26 to 53 degrees east. Israel.: Tour Ltd. and El Al.. 1958-1959.. Two color maps of Israel; overall good condition. The first, circa 1959, is titled "Holy Land Pilgrim Map" and unfolds to 9 1/2 x 27 inches. Inset maps of Highway Distances and "Neighbouring Countries." Verso of map provides information on "New Testament Sites," "General Interest Sites," and "Sectional Map of Jerusalem (Israel and Jordan)," the latter showing "Armistice Lines" etc. The second folded map, published by El Al and dated 1958, is 12 x 4 1/2 inches and titled "Israel." Inset text block identifies color codes for Armistice Lines, Demiltarized Zone, International Boundaries etc. Small circle has been placed around Ashqelon (Ashkelon) and Beer Sheva. Verso of map features El Al's flight map from Tel Aviv to Europe and the US and a smaller map showing flights from Tel Aviv to Nairobi and Johannesburg. Text promotes "El Al's jet-prop 'Britannia'" which they term "the world's biggest, fastest, most comfortable airliner." Very small dog-ear folds to corners, circled text noted, overall good condition. .

Booklet, 11pp, large folding color pictographic / pictorial map, 9 x 33 inches, gilt pictorial brown stiff card wrappers, 9 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches. Small mark on front cover, overall a very good copy with map in fine condition. Gilt lettering on front cover is particularly bright. "Map of the Suez Canal The World's most Important Waterway" includes an inset Index Map, a Profile of the Suez Canal, and vignette illustrations of various views and monuments. There is no edition or date of publication, but the text notes that nearly 5000 steamers passed through the canal in 1926. Price of 1/6 on front cover. .
