Egypt.

By EGYPT)

Cairo.: Institut Graphique Egyptian.. 1952.. Six panel folded brochure, each panel (double-sided) 9 ¼ x 4 ½ inches, dated 1952, the year the Free Officers Movement (Muhammad Naguib and Gamal Abdel Nasser) brought the Egyptian monarchy to an end. King Farouk, forced to abandon the throne, departed for Italy on July 26, 1952. The constitutional monarchy, nearing an end, would emerge as the Republic of Egypt. A most interesting brochure, in very good clean condition, dating from a moment of historic transformation. The booklet features a one-panel pictorial map of the Nile from "Soudan" to the Mediterranean. The Egypt described in this brochure, dated 1952, is descriptive of a world coming to a close. Text in the brochure advises that "the tourist can spend a happy time attending every year the most famous opera and ballet companies and enjoying Sporting clubs which are scattered in all centres"; also, "Music-Halls and Cabarets give excellent shows. Dinner dances are given in the hotels and restaurants all night." The unanticipated end of British dominance makes this publication of considerable historical interest. .
