Champion Mowers and Binders.

By ILLINOIS - CHICAGO WORLD'S FAIR / FARM IMPLEMENTS CATALOG)

Springfield, Ohio.: Warder, Bushnell & Glessner Co.. No date. Ca. 1893.. Brochure published by the farm implements company Warder, Bushnell & Glessner, 6 x 3 ½ inches, opening to tricolor map of central Chicago 11 ¾ x 19 ¾ inches providing information on steamboat service departing from Lake Front Park to the site of the Chicago World’s Fair while another steamboat service provides service to Lincoln Park. Important buildings in downtown Chicago are identified on the map, as are various railroad terminals. Verso of map provides illustrations and detailed information regarding Harvesters, Mowers and other farm implements produced by the publisher and features engaging black and white illustrations of their products. A three-inch separation along a fold; overall good condition. Rear cover of booklet depicts, in color, the publisher’s extensive factories while the illustration on the front cover of booklet is, in a word, odd. A pudgy man is sitting, seemingly asleep, in a chair while on a table next to him an archaic oil-burning slipper lamp sends fumes in the air that, evidently, conjure images of Chicago for the dreamer. The man is shown wearing outsize ballooning pantaloons seemingly inflated by gas. The image is likely intended to represent Christopher Columbus, namesake of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, dreaming across the centuries about Chicago. Very odd. .
