Hardcover bound in purple cloth with a color painted picture of dogs and a cat on the front cover. The binding shows moderate rubbing and wear with some bumping and scuffing about the edges. There is some insect damage at the bottom corner of the text block, going into the margin a little on some of the pages and affecting about 3 inches along the very bottom edge. There was also a very little nibble at the fore edge of the text block. This does not affect the text at all. Lacks the dust jacket, but the inner flaps of the jacket are laid in loosely. The inner hinges are secure. The title page has a crease or wrinkle near the top corner, but the text itself is generally clean and unmarked. A solid copy. Illustrated with a number of full and partial page black and white drawings. A charming book.

This is #136 of 2000 copies signed by both Arthur Fitzgerald and Monsieur Jean Romanet. Hardcover bound in red quarter leather with blue cloth (silk?)-covered boards and with lettering and central design on the front cover in gilt; gilt lettering on the spine. All edges gilt. Housed in the original blue cloth (or slik)-covered slipcase. The slipcase has some spotting and contact marks. The book itself is fresh and clean and appears unread. Illustrated throughout. The best history of France's most prestigious horse race. Trade editions in three volumes were also issued. This covers the entire history year by year from 1920 to 1997 with photos. Black and white photos throughout and with three sections of color photos on glossy paper. Laid in loosely is a piece of ephemera: an advertisement / order form for "Champions' Copies" for 475 Pounds Sterling each. Text is in English.
