Numerous names and owners' inscriptions on the front pastedown and front flyleaf with dates of 1849 and 1848. Pages untrimmed and with wide margins. Some foxing to the text. Two leaves, for pages 75-6 and 77-78, have significant tears running from the fore edges going completely to the gutter. Contains a frontis and 3 other full page engravings for a total of four. Also contains a few text drawings explaining the method of Chinese writing. Publisher's ads at the front.
