Light to moderate wear to the binding. A sound copy with secure inner hinges. All edges gilt. Silk moire endpapers. The front flyleaf has a tiny chip on the fore edge. There is a printed presentation ticket tipped in at the front reading, " Presented to Mrs. D. P. Marshall As a Souvenir of the First Annual Meeting of the Pacific Coast New-Church Association, held at the City of San Francisco August 16th, 17th, and 18th, 1890. By a Member of the San Francisco Delegation." (Recipient's name is hand-written in). There is a pencil inscription above this which is hard to read. The text is sound and clean within. John Doughty (1825-1893) was the first pastor of the New Jerusalem Church (Swedenborgian) in San Francisco. He was born to Quaker parents in Brooklyn, New York Scarce.

The brown wrappers are tattered. The text of the book is sound, and the text is generally clean. Laid in loosely is an 1894 newspaper clipping on the Syricac manuscript as well as a narrow sheet of paper with early handwritten notes on "Peculiarities of Syriac Gospels.
