Corners are a little bumped and abraded, and the spine ends are chipped or abraded. Some scuffing on the spine. One spot of the marbled paper on the bottom edge of the front cover is chipped or torn. The front pastedown has a nice mid-20th century Greek bookplate featuring a stag. A sound copy with clean text. (There are a couple of closed repaired tears on the final leaf: the Table des Matieres). Contains several full-page sepia illustrations from photos. Herode Atticus (A.D. 101-177) was a wealthy Greek aristocrat and sophist who served as a Roman Senator. He was a patron of the arts and letters. A wealthy benefactor, he also funded several large building projects in Greece and Asia Minor, including theaters, stadiums and aqueducts.
