A large black "X" is on the front flyleaf of each volume. Some spotting to the outside edges of the text block, but the text is sound and clean.

A large, heavy volume measuring just over 15 inches tall by11 1/2 inches wide. Hardcover bound in 3/4 black leather with dark green marbled paper-covered boards. The binding is worn and scuffed and bumped. There is a horizontal tear in the leather about 5 1/2 inches up from the foot of the spine, and there is a crack in the leather along the front hinge from this split to the foot. The tear appears to be closed or glued, but it is not open. The binding itself is sound, and the text is generally clean. We have found a tear on the fore edge of one page extending a little into the text. Many of the issues have their orange covers (although not especially pictorial). Most of the covers have many advertisements. Most of the issues are not illustrated, although a few do have some an illustration, usually of a farm animal. Weighs just over 10 pounds. Scarce.

Hardcover bound in burgundy leather-back cloth. The leather spine has raised bands with elaborate gilt stamping in the compartments. Scuffing and small tear at foot. Boards are scuffed. Rear board has dark mark at lower right corner. Marbled endpapers. Some pages are toned, text in general is foxed. Dog-eared pages. Text is in French. There is a gilt "2" on the spine, so we assume this is Volume 2, and the printed note on the last page of the text indicates that this is the second volume of a set.

Moderate wear and rubbing to binding, although the leather on the spine looks like it had dried out a bit and was treated. Outer text block is speckled red. All pages clean and copy is sound. The front pastedown bears a lovely bookplate of W.J. Lucas featuring a large beetle. The bookplate measures 5 5/8 inches tall by 3 1/2 inches wide and has a handwritten note at the bottom reading "24.xi.21" (possibly for November 24, 1921). Portrait frontis.
