Description:
Dhaka: Ananya, 1997. First printing. 96 pp., 8vo. Sewn signatures in illustrated wrappers. Translated from the Bengali by Kabir Chowdhury. Light marking to covers, and mild corner bump, otherwise very good. Inscribed to Steve Lacy and Irene Aebi. Taslima Nasreen, born in Bengladesh in 1962, is a feminist and humanist writer, physician, and activist who has been the object of violent campaigns of intolerance from fundamentalists and extremists in her own country and elsewhere. Exiled in 1994, physically attacked, her books banned and burned, and the subject of fatwas and death threats, she has continued to write and speak out. She has written forty books in Bengali, including novels, essays, and seven volumes of autobiography (so far), but she began as a poet, and has published thirteen books of poems. Composer and soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy wrote settings for English translations of NasreenÂ’s poems in his “jam opera” The Cry, recorded and released in 1999 — the same year in which Nasreen… Read More

Description:
London: Gogmagog Private Press, 1967. First printing. (24) pp., 4 x 7.75 inches. Patterned paper over boards, with printed spine label, issued without dust-jacket. With three two-color intaglio prints. Designed, illustrated, printed, and bound by the author in an edition of one hundred numbered and signed copies; this is one of sixty which were for sale. Light wear to corners and edges, spine label curling slightly, with a lean to the spine and a touch of toning to page edges, still a very good copy of a fragile production. Fourteen severely brief three-line poems, with less austere and even playful illustrations. The author notes, "The purpose of these Triads is to offer something very near the ultimate in poetic simplicity. They aim to bring together two unrelated elements by a third in such a way that an unstated meaning may be suggested to the reader." Like all of the Gogmagog productions, an elegant and scarce book.

Description:
Portland, OR: Prensa de Lagar, 1969. First printing. (25) pp., 8vo. Saddle-stapled into printed wrappers. Designed and published by Carlos Reyes in an edition of 450 copies, of which the first 25 were numbered and signed by the author on the title page; this is number 3 from the signed copies. As new. The scarce first book by Brigham, a one-time student of Robert Duncan, whose daughter Heloise (also a poet) was married to noted New Mexico poet Keith Wilson; a remarkable family. Born Bess Miller Moore, she later changed her name to the more colloquial phonetic spelling. Her work has become more widely known in recent years through the efforts of C. D. Wright, who edited a selection of her short poems, published by Wright's Lost Roads Press, which also offers an annual award in Brigham's name for a woman writer. From the publisher's last remaining copies, in pristine condition.
