Dawson, signed that page and numbered the edition - plus on the facing page he wrote "The New Jersey Historical Society with the respects of Henry B. Dawson" - in beautiful 19th century script. Dawson was according to my research on the internet an immigrant from England who fell in love with american histroy. He became a newspaper editor and journalist but was known in the end as an historian.
