The etching illustrates two chefs preparing food. Fritz Gross (1895 -1969) Architect and artist, the instigator of open plan design, born in Brelitz, an Austrian Jew who fled to England with his family in 1938 at the invitation of the President of the Royal Institution of British Architects. The Fritz Gross collection is housed in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.

Toning to title and frontis. Provenance: From the library at Clifford Priory (now demolished) Bookplate of B. Haigh Allen to fep. Signature of Bn. Haigh to title. Mentioned frequently in Kilvert's Diary, the Haigh-Allens of Clifford Priory were central to the social scene of the Welsh Marches. The strawberries of Clifford Priory the sweetest ever. His two daughters, Mary Lucy and Emily Kate are mentioned frequently by Kilvert in his Diary. Benjamin Haigh Allen was a personal friend of William Wilberforce and campaigner for abolition. Barrett, Eaton Stannard (1786–1820) poet, satirist. 'All the talents' is a political satire of the Whig administration, and the origin of that name. First published in three parts, the later 'editions' were augmented by further dialogues. This is the first edition of the complete work.

ESTC T2314; T2313 His custom to collect and conserve led Ireland to publish the first scholarly studies of William Hogarth whom he had long admired. Ireland purchased prints, plates, and manuscripts of Hogarth, publishing Hogarth Illustrated (2 vols., 1791) and, subsequently, a biography - the standard for many years - based on Hogarth's manuscripts and autobiographical notes, entitled A Supplement to Hogarth Illustrated (1798). In his proposal for the supplement (dated 7 July 1796), Ireland made clear there was no connection between himself and Samuel Ireland, author of Graphic Illustrations of Hogarth. ODNB.

Whilst the card mounts show foxing, the mounted plates are unaffected. Original green cloth, red lettering and gold-tooled heraldic motifs, soiled and rubbed with wear to extremities. Hinges cracked. Signed by the artist. John McLure Hamilton (1853-1936) Anglo-American artist, caricaturist, and cartoonist; he was the official portrait painter to Gladstone.
