Original blue decorative cloth, gilt and blind tooling to spine, gilt and embossed vignette to upper board. Spine sunned, slight edge wear. Occasional neat pencil underlining. A large number of the Clan LIne's ships were requisitioned by the British Government during the First World War. They were called "The Scots Navy". Of 62 ships at the outbreak of war, 28 were lost.Only two copies of this rarer edition held in the UK: National Maritime Museum and the City of London Guildhall, who both query the date of publication. Not held in the British Library. The more common Cassells reprint was published in 1924.

Toned throughout, with some spotting. Small ink stain to edges. Signature to title page. Barely legible note dated 1832, with the name Matthias Ferguson … "come Holy Spirit" loosely inserted: Ferguson marked neatly with pencil in subscribers list. Miln's reconciliation of recent geological discoveries and scripture: the chapter "To build an Ark" carefully evaluates the practicalities. Paley's own work was published 8 years later.
