Anthem

"If you are really wondering about it, Anthem is a poem" (Rand to Rose Wilder Lane, 1946.) First Edition, one of only 3500 copies of Ayn Rand's only "poem." Anthem was submitted to Rand's American publisher, who rejected it on that grounds that she "did not understand socialism." Rand's British publisher earned the distinct honour of publishing the first, unrevised edition of the poem. A very good, slightly cocked copy, lacking the rare dust jacket, with no writings or markings save for "Printed in England" on the second fly leaf in pencil. Book #P1102. $3500. This is the First issue of the First American edition, (preceded by the original Cassell printing, 1938), published as Vol lll, No. 1 of "The Freeman Magazine" in a single printing of only 2,000 copies in stiff gray paper covers.
