This lovely little incunable page wit its tiny rubrications is becoming a rarity among collectors. The printing is the gothic copied after the manuscripts of just a few years earlier, and every effort was expended to emulate in type those lovely manuscript religious works. 1497. Book. Good. No Binding. A Leaf from a Latin Version of the Bible, printed in Venice in 1497 by Hieronymus de Paganini. While early editions of the Vulgate followed one another in rapid succession, all are now scarce and worthy of attention if only for their place in the history of typography. The need for thin paper in printing as large a book as the Bible was evidently felt as keenly then as in our own day, and the very credible success obtained by Paganini in this direction may be said to foreshadow modern India paper editions. Ephemera. Good. No Binding. A Leaf from the Twelve Books of the Orations of Quintilian, with annotations by various scholars. Printed by Pierre Vidoue and published by Jean Petit at Paris in 1527. The leaf here shown is interesting because of the variety of type faces, the large clean roman text being strikingly set off by the diminutive roman annotations and the bold running titles in lettre de forme. Book. Good. No Binding. Leaf from Postilla Super Psalterium, Hugo de Sancto Caro. A beautiful, large folio leaf from one of the most famous early printers, Anthoni Koperger. Printed in Nuremberg in 1498, this remarkably well preserved leaf shows the fine and clear gothic type and the early printer's attempts at conforming to the manuscript appearance by the simulated rubrications. Koberger, the godson of Albrecht Durer and contemporary of the equally famous Aldus was one of the more enterprising printers of his time, having twent-four presses and employing about 100 people; an organized book manufacturing concern within just a few years of the beginning of printing!
