Translated from the German by Richard Strachan. From the dust jacket: "In this very personal book based on decades of experience Karl Rahner, who has remained at heart a humble, understanding priest throughout his scholarly career, speaks of the greatness of the priesthood in our time". Two page list of related publications by the author and a second two page list of references. The book show some very mild wear to the spine tips and fore corners of the boards and the paste down end papers are tanned on the margins. Otherwise very clean with a tight binding. The unclipped dust jacket has minimal wear. .

Translated from the French by Father Patrick O'Connell. This book was first published in 1910 in Italy. The first English edition was in 1947. This is the first Tan reprint and shows only very minor shelf wear to the covers. .

All text block edges are gilt with full rounds at the fore corners. Two page prologue by the author in Latin: "Auctoris prologii quaedam excerpta". The text has been translated and adapted by Rev. F. J. O'Sullivan from the Latin original "Memoriale Vitae Sacerdotalis" published in the late 1700's. Fr. O'Sullivan tells of this book having been used as a text book at the seminary in Maynooth, Ireland in the early 1800's and indeed it was commonly used in many seminaries of that day. Seventy-seven short chapters each dealing with a specific facet, duty, or characteristic of the priestly life. Sepia tone frontis piece of Christ the High Priest. The spine has mild wear to the tips and some light wear/rubbing to the spine itself. All gilt work (lettering and edge gilding) is still quite bright and crisp. Previous owner's name on the half title page. Else, very clean with sound and supple binding. .
