Some marginalia and minor underlining is present; 5 or 6 instances in the first 50 pages or so and 2 or 3 instances in appendix one. Otherwise the interior is clean and the binding is sound. What appears to have been two soft cover publications, with the original covers present, bound into one hard cover volume with a tan faux-leather finish and gilt lettering on the spine and a gilt crest centered on the front board. Illustrated with many black and white photographs. Previous owner's name and dated note on the front free end paper. The externals show very little wear and the interior is clean. Pages 247 - 250 (one folded leaf) is loose as it appears to have missed the binding process. A small scratch across the spine near the bottom. .

No date of publication given though first published in the mid 1800's, this set probably dates from the mid to late 1890's. Illustrated with black and white plates, 4 in volume I and 4 in volume II including the frontis pieces.Thirty page index for both volumes at the back of volume II. Previous owner has written a date (Dec 25, 1910) on the front free end paper of both volumes with an erased ghost of the name just above that date. The interiors are otherwise clean and the bindings are sound and solid. Both volumes show only mild wear to the externals and the spines are a tad faded with the gilt lettering still bright. Clear and removable archival covers have been fitted. .
