Leonard is best known for his crime fiction and suspense thrillers -- many of which have been adapted into motion pictures -- but his earliest novels were Westerns. Charged with bringing in an old Apache war chief, our hero encounters ruthless bounty hunters paid per Indian scalp who have expanded their bloody business to include poor Mexican farmers living just south of the Arizona territory border. Very good to near fine with the spine ends a little shelf worn and pushed in; in good to very good dust jacket with spine fading, overall light soiling, and professional repair (tape removed and a few chips filled in). Slight loss at base of spine, spine label a little rubbed affecting tips of few letters, covers lightly soiled and slightly edge worn. Still, about very good for this fragile production. Scarce volume of verse from the author of BRAVE NEW WORLD.

Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1940. Charles Addams. First edition. A proof copy bound in pictorial wraps with the illustration from the eventual trade edition dust jacket. "With the compliments of Houghton Mifflin Company" slip laid in. Spine slightly cocked and front hinge just beginning to split, otherwise very good or better, especially for this fragile production. Great illustrations by Charles Addams.

New York: McClure, Phillips & Co., 1904. First edition of the author's first book. First issue with "McClure, Phillips & Co." on spine. 8vo black cloth boards stamped in orange, green and white. Good to very good with spine dulled and barely readable and elaborate front cover illustration a bit rubbed and showing a few small color touch ups but text block sound and, with the exception of a touch of minor damp staining at rear, quite clean. Housed in custom, blue-green cloth-covered chemise and matching slipcase with gilt-stamped black labels to spine.

Endpapers replaced otherwise very good or better with gilt spine lettering strong but unevenly tarnished, text block somewhat aged, offset to half-title from item previously laid in, and minor cover soiling and wear.
