On the front of this copy, the Connecticut poet has written in blue ink: "Dear Kitty-- Thank you for your kind note. I want to come see you, but New Haven is more realistic--I'd love to come down for dinner, or lunch, or better have you up, when you're there next." Lowell (1819-1891) was New England poet, Harvard Law School grad, editor of an abolitionist newspaper in Philadelphia, &c.

Printed on the verso: "Warren, Boston and Cambridgeport, Mass." Written in pencil, "OWHolmes" [not an authentic signature]. Holmes (1809-1894) was a New England medical reformer and author, perhaps best known for his "Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table" and related titles.
