Far, far to the west, nearly 7,000 miles distant in Soviet Kaliningrad (the Konigsberg of pre-war east Prussia), families are now sitting down to dinner..There, it is the night before, May the 14th. They are closer to the U.S.A. than to the Bering shores." - A Day in the Life of the Soviet Union

Frederick The Great

By G.P. Gooch

This book is in good condition. There is wear on the cover, front, back, spine, edges and corners. The lettering on the cover is fading. The previous owners mark is on the inside front cover board and there is some underlining in the book The pages are still white and crisp. "Frederick The Great ranks with Cromwell and Peter The Great, Washington and Napolean, Cavour and Bismarck, Lenin, Masaryk, and Mustapha Kemal, Mussolini and Hitler among the men of action who have been denounced as arch-destroyers by some and applauded as master-builders by others. Since all of them were house-breakers as well as architects, it depends on our nationality and idealogy which aspect we stress. What is not in dispute is the significance of their work, the depth of the furrows as they ploughed their way towards their goal, their influence not only in land of their birth but in neighbouring countries and sometimes in more than one Continent. No agreed verdict can be pronounced on any of them, for their judges wear spectacles of various tints." - Preface, Frederick The Great
