Bewick's Select Fables of Aesop and Others

London: Bickers & Son, 1871 The book is a bright blue cloth decorated in gilt and orange, showing a pictorial motif in the middle of a lamb and a lion in gold. The cover is complete, showing some whitening spots. The corners are rubbed at the tips as is the top and base of the spine.The opening page has a neat inscription dated December 14th, 1872. There is some weakness in the opening two pages at the spine, but most of the rest of the pages are sound and reasonably clean. The pages are edged in gilt. Contains numerous woodcuts by Thomas Bewick. A scan can be sent on request.

Marbled end pagess. 378 pages. Some light age spotting to first 28 pages. Some rubbing to the board edges, and light rubbing to the board face. Please note that on checking the pages of this book page 15/16 has been wrongly inserted between pages 2 and 3. This must have been a mistake on publication as this page has been sewn in place by the the publisher. Knowing this the story can be followed easily. All other pages have been checked and follow correctly. This must be a 1864 error in the collating of this book. (in my opinion)

Decorated title page. ffep may have been neatly removed as the first page is the plain title page. A neat clean book.
