The binding and the dust jacket show minor wear to the extremities. A small tear (1 cm) is present on the upper edge of the rear jacket. The bottom corner edge of the rear board contains a (12 x 3 mm) chip in the cloth. Pages are clean and unmarked. This work appeared in at least two different versions (both with the copyright 1956). One version, (offered here) is titled "Dictionary of Magic." The other version, titled "Dictionary of the Occult," is printed in smaller dimensions, on lower quality paper, and it does not contain a preface and a bibliography. Not apparent which printing came first. Harry E. Wedeck (1894-1996), was a Latin teacher, also fluent in French, who published several popular dictionaries on occult and other subjects.

Boards contain some rubbing and wear. A name is printed in an early hand on the front free fly-leaf. Interior pages are generally clean. Corner crease is present on p. 123. Canonicus is the pseudonym of William Shedd (1797-1830), a New England evangelist preacher who was minister for one year at Abington Ma. His "Letters", addressed to William E. Channing (1780-1842), the influential Boston Unitarian preacher, were written in opposition to Unitarian tendencies to deny the agency and personal existence of the devil and his angels. The author, with the use of Biblical scripture argues for the existence of Satan and of fallen spirits.
