Description:
London: Macmillan & Co., 1882. First edition. Crown octavo, black cloth with Rossetti's attractive monogram in gilt on upper board, pp. vii, 432, [17] appendix. [1] publisher's advert. Wood-engraved frontispiece, "A Sonnet", is a previously unpublished drawing by Rossetti, being an illumination of a poem. Appendix documents 395 paintings and drawings by Rossetti, giving dates, medium and owners. Front and rear hinge paper cracked but otherwise sound; endpapers, frontispiece and title page foxed; bookplate on pastedown, cloth at crown hs perished and is now level with the textblock, base of spine and corner tips slightly frayed and bared, front board with long crease, small neat repair to rear gutter. Despite this litany of faults, a good, sound copy of an attractive book. Fredeman 25.3; NCBEL III, 1065.
