This copy retains the scarce insert on green paper that was issued with all copies, a bibliographic note on the genesis and publication history of the poem by Jorge Sanhueza. The first definitive edition of the poems, including the Chambi photographs referenced in "The Latin American Photobook." The poems first appeared as "Canto II" in Neruda's "Canto General" (1950), and have regularly been translated into English. Included in the archive are: one Draft script for an unproduced film titled "Red Shoes Run Faster," one script for an unproduced play titled "The Ice Maiden," one early treatment script for an unproduced film adaptation of Nathan's novel "Mr. Whittle and the Morning Star" (here under the working title "Mr. Whittle's Apocalypse"), one Draft script for an unproduced script titled "The Fundamentalist," and one Draft script for an unproduced film adaptation of Nathan's novel "So Love Returns." INSCRIBED by the author to American journalist Edgar Mowrer on the limitation page: "To Edgar Mowrer / from / Edward Storer / Rome / 30/1/'60." Considered by many to be "the dean of American foreign correspondents," Edgar Mowrer was born in Bloomington in 1892. He began working as a reporter in France in 1914, having been pressed into service alongside his brother, then working for the "Chicago Daily News." Perceiving the growing power of the Nazi Party, Mowrer began reporting on the rise of Adolf Hitler, publishing day-by-day dispatches from Berlin that would win him a Pulitzer Prize in 1933. Stanford's landmark primitive style of poetry, which involved strange tall tales and recurring characters, rivers, and a constant focus on death, has attained an almost mythical status among students of avant-garde and expressionistic poetry over the past three decades. Contemporary poets such as Alan Dugan, Franz Wright, Lorenzo Thomas, James Wright, and Richard Eberhardt have praised Stanford's work, Wright having once called him "one of the great voices of death." Overnight readings of "Battlefield" have taken place at universities across the United States since his death. Lost Roads Press, a small imprint formed by Stanford and C.D. Santa Rosa, CA: Black Sparrow Press, 1999. Original broadside poster advertising a poetry contest for fans of post-Beat poet Charles Bukowski. Issued by Bukowski's longtime publisher, Black Sparrow Press, in collaboration with Copperfield's Books and Music store, and the Sonoma County Independent. The contest was held to commemorate the iconic literary figure, and entries were personally judged by John Martin to determine those that captured the "spirit of Bukowski's writing." The poster itself reprints the Bukowski poem, "Wide and Moving." 9.5 x 12.5 inches, printed recto only in black and red. Near Fine.

With art nouveau decorations by Margaret Armstrong, and photographs by the Hampton Institute Camera Club, throughout. A collection of nine poems by renowned, influential African American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, best known for his dialect verse. Very Good plus in a Very Good plus example of the excessively rare dust jacket. Gilt lightly rubbed, with some offsetting from the jacket flaps to the endpapers, faint foxing on the half-title page. Jacket has a few short tears on the edges, two mended with archival tape on the verso, and small chips at the corners and crown.
