Description:
Chile: Nascimento, 1954. First printing of this edition. One of 1000 numbered copies (this being No. 680) SIGNED by the author. This copy retains the scarce insert on green paper that was issued with all copies, a bibliographic note on the genesis and publication history of the poem by Jorge Sanhueza. The first definitive edition of the poems, including the Chambi photographs referenced in "The Latin American Photobook." The poems first appeared as "Canto II" in Neruda's "Canto General" (1950), and have regularly been translated into English. Moderate toning and light rubbing overall, with light bumps at the extremities, else Near Fine. A superior example of a title not often found in collectible condition. Becco 84. Loyola 292. Description:
Unknown: Privately printed, 1939. Limited Edition, one of 100 numbered copies (this being No. 27). INSCRIBED by the author to American journalist Edgar Mowrer on the limitation page: "To Edgar Mowrer / from / Edward Storer / Rome / 30/1/'60." Considered by many to be "the dean of American foreign correspondents," Edgar Mowrer was born in Bloomington in 1892. He began working as a reporter in France in 1914, having been pressed into service alongside his brother, then working for the "Chicago Daily News." Perceiving the growing power of the Nazi Party, Mowrer began reporting on the rise of Adolf Hitler, publishing day-by-day dispatches from Berlin that would win him a Pulitzer Prize in 1933. Viewed as a serious threat to Nazi power, Mowrer became the first American correspondent to be driven from Germany, taking a post in Paris, where he remained until France's defeat by German forces in 1940. An outspoken antifascist, Mowrer returned to the US and gave lectures about the dangers of Nazi Germany and…

Description:
Seattle, WA and Fayetteville, AR: Mill Mountain Press / Lost Roads 1977, No. 7-12. First Edition. First Edition. The poet's magnum opus, published one year before his suicide in 1978. Stanford's landmark primitive style of poetry, which involved strange tall tales and recurring characters, rivers, and a constant focus on death, has attained an almost mythical status among students of avant-garde and expressionistic poetry over the past three decades. Contemporary poets such as Alan Dugan, Franz Wright, Lorenzo Thomas, James Wright, and Richard Eberhardt have praised Stanford's work, Wright having once called him "one of the great voices of death." Overnight readings of "Battlefield" have taken place at universities across the United States since his death. Lost Roads Press, a small imprint formed by Stanford and C.D. Wright in 1976, reissued three of his works, including a corrected edition of "Battlefield," in 2008. About Fine and unread in perfect-bound wrappers. A superb example.
