Pretoria, S.A.: Sagittarius Publishers, 1958. First Edition . Wrappers. Near Fine. Octavo. The June 1958 [Vol/ 1, No.3] issue of APPROACH, Men in Life and Space, a South African Publication. From the collection of Max Miller. Octavo, 6 pp as octavo and so numbered. Minor age-toning, mailing folds, else Near Fine. Edited by South African Edgar Sievers, author of Flying Saucer Uber Sudafrika (though this newsletter is in English). Something new and different, even for the churning and seminal UFOlogy/spirituality time period of the 50s: UFO's from a South African / Tibetan Buddhism perspective. Approach was self-identified as a "non-profit, Peace and Brotherhood Programme publication", and reflects that with the ruminative and spiritual articles within, so emblematic of that mysterious fifties zeitgeist. Included: "Peace"; "The Lama's Story" ; "Psychology in the Wilderness"; and "African Region Liaison Group". A remarkable thing to… Read More

New York: Street & Smth Publications, 1956. Soft cover. Near Fine. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Near Fine - very sharp, for a 50s genre pulp. Astounding Science Fiction - July 1956, which includes the First Appearance of the semi-controversial 'Tomb Tapper", by James Blish. 12mo, illustrated perfect-bound wraps, 162 pp.; cover art by Van Dongen, interior black and white art by him as well as Kelly Freas and Emsh. Near Fine, truly, for a fifties pulp; complete spine with just a tiny touch at top (see spine scan; what appears on that scan to be scuffing is not that - its wrap-around from the cover art); interior pages do have the inevitable age-toning in publications of this type and era - but much more moderately so than in almost any others you'll likely see. Included(see contents scan) are pieces by, in addition to Blish, Murry Leinster, Randall Garrett, F.L. Wallace, Allen Lang, and Robert S. Richardson. New York : Little Leather Library Corporation, 1921. Flexible Boards. Very Good. 48mo - over 3 - 4" tall. Very Good. See scans and description. New York: Little Leather Library Corporation, undated but circa 1921. 'At the End of the Passage', by Rudyard Kipling. 48mo - a miniature book, 3 7/8" tall; green and copper flexible leatherette boards, 92 pp. Very Good; about as good as the fragile Little Leather Library series generally survives, with no salient flaws other than the standard deep age-toning to the endpapers; contents are quite bright and un-toned, and the amount of copper-color remaining in the copper-and-green binding is quite goods (these little pieces often started out without much of the copper color). Zoom on scans. This is the Redcroft edition of the Little Leather Library series of promotional miniatures. All such versions from LLL would have been treated as ephemera at the time. Scarce now. 'At the End of the Passage' is a rather impacftul horror story or… Read More

Octavo, stapled wraps, 22 pp. including covers. Faint age toning to paper, one small corner fold, else, really, near fine. A very sharp and well preserved copy of this UFO-historical newsletter from Down Under. An unpretentious typed, reproduced newsletter edited by Fred P. Stone; just a few of the entries here are: "Unity" (a Stone editorial); Howard Menger's Experience (contactee; adapted from Jim Moseley's Saucer News); The Miracle Train; Orbit Bows Out, a tribute to Len H. Stringfield on the closing of his magazine of that title; Strange Behaviour of Meteors in Adelaide; On the Same Night In Adelaide; Further Signs of Life on Mars; brief reports on sightings in Anna Creek, Adelaide,… Read More

Toronto: The Brotherhood of Faithists, 1957. First Edition . Wrappers. Near Fine. Octavo. Toronto: The Brotherhood of Faithists, 1957. Presumed First Edition. Octavo, red stapled printed wraps, 26 pp. Near Fine; a touch of rubbing to covers, no other flaws. Very sharp. Another singular expression of whatever it was that happened with regard to UFOs in the first decade after Ken Arnold's Cascade Mountain sighting. Full of sightings - and a page on Oahspe flying saucers - this is apparently not a peridodical, though it is identified as "Part I". The Brotherhood of Faithists was originally founded by John B. Newbrough, who also wrote the Oahspe, an alternative bible he claimed to have written under spirit control. Cover-featured articles are: 1957 Saucer Sightings; Vibrations From Saucers; Cigar Shaped Saucers and Disks, along with a quote from the Oahspe: "Great Jehovih's Hand sendeth the travelling worlds into the light of Kosmon, and new prophets will arise gathering up… Read More
