Formerly in Wigan Free Public Library with attractive engraved bookplate to front pastedown endpaper, single stamp to verso of title page, and lightly embossed stamps to title page and first and last pages of text. Inscribed and signed by the author to front free endpaper. Presented to the author Andrew Lang, famed for his fairy books; 'To Andrew Lang esq with the compliments of the author, A.A. Grace. Nelson, Aug. 1908.' Above the inscription is a note: Cat. bought May 1913. From the Lang library sale H.T.F.' Grace clearly had a deep respect for Lang, as this work is also dedicated to him: 'To Andrew Lang, M.A., LL.D., Folklorist and Mythologist. Who has done more than any other living writer to foster in the British Race a love of such tales as are here collected. This book is dedicated; and it is placed in his hands with the hope that he will accept it as a genuine, if humble, contribution to the vast store of mythological lore which he has so lovingly accumulated and of which no one appreciates so well as he the importance to posterity.
