Rabanus Mauris, the Carolingian churchman and Divine was born of noble parents in Mainz in 784, he became Archbishop of Mainz in 847. De Laudibus Sanctae Crucis (In Praise of the Holy Cross) is one of his most enduring works, a collection of poems that present the holy cross in word and image.
