Sympathetically rebound in full brown leather. The title page carries a publication date of 1783, but the consecutive pagination suggests to me that the title page may have been inserted from another disbound book at the time this volume was rebound.. Boston: Samuel Kneeland and Timothy Green, 1742. Compilation of acts passed by the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony from 1692 through 1742. Also bound in are two acts (Evans 5237 and 5238) that were passed in 1743. Preceding the compilation are the colony's Charter and a "Table of Acts". Sympathetically rebound in full brown leather, with original leather laid down on front and rear boards. Missing the title page and first 2 pages of the Charter. The book is clean and tight, with bumped corners; minor rubbing on the covers; minor fraying at head of spine; first 10 pages are dog-eared some rubbing on one corner of the front pastedown endpaper, exposing the boards underneath.. Detailed catalogue for an exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston from May 5 through August 22, 1982. The catalogue includes all the 504 cultural relics from 17th century New England in the exhibition, each illustrated in either color and black & white. Detailed descriptions from the work of eminent scholars accompany each item. According to Fairbanks, the impact of the exhibition is to survey "the entire culture by examining it from every angle, from sweeping concepts of the cosmos to the mundane facts of everyday life." The three volumes are in very good condition: clean and bright, with minimal wear on the covers; occasional underlining and marginalia in pencil.. First Edition. Hardcover. Boston: Henry W. Dutton & Sons, Printers, 1856. 195 pages. Octavo. Binding is embossed cloth. Frontispiece is a steel engraved portrait of Peabody (foxed and offset onto title page). There are 17 original tinted lithographs, printed by J.H. Buford, for whom the important American artist Winslow Homer worked as an apprentice lithographer. Two of the lithographs are signed (with initials on the stone) by Homer: "Arch at Danversport, and Residence of Hon. R.S. Daniels" (facing page 21) and "Arch at Danversport, near the Baptist Church" (facing page 89). Five additional lithographs in the book are attributed to Homer by David Tatham, who is considered to be the expert on Homer's graphic art. The text includes descriptions of the decorations and parade, speeches, odes, toasts, and press reviews of the event. The book is clean and tight, with a tiny scrape on rear cover; pages lightly toned.
