Rear cover color litho of Magic Yeast and Yeast Foam packages. 24 pages including covers. 8vo. Illustrated with five full page color lithographs and a couple of black/white images. Four page center fold-out with photos explaining the step-by-step process for making bread. First six pages explain various facts you should know when making bread followed by some 30 recipes; recipes for bread, rolls, pancakes, root beer, and doughnuts. This is a very lovely example of an early manufacturers cook book with color lithographs. An absolutely flawless book but for a split along the edge of one of the center fold-out pages. Covers with light wear and rubbing; front cover pulled from staples at the spine; very occasional notes in pencil. An often used book still in nice condition. VERY GOOD-. 1st Edition.. Soft cover. Pillsbury Flour Mills Company. Minneapolis., 1933 Book size about 6 1/2 by 9 inches with unnumbered pages. Bound in an aluminum clam shell box with front cover Art Deco lettering and raised spine lettering. Interior contains an 11 ring metal binder with 224 recipe cards arranged by category (Cookies, Pies, Salads, etc.) for a total of 11 categories plus a group of blank cards for the owner to fill in. In all my years of dealing with books this is the only moderately priced aluminum book binding I have seen--usually seen today in modern expensive art books. The 1930's were probably the beginning of aluminum cookware in the home and perhaps the publishers felt this was a clever way to promote their book. Obviously very expensive to make. But for rubbing to the aluminum covers (Most noticeable on the rear cover) this appears to be an almost unused book. NEAR FINE. 1st Edition.. Hardcover. Near Fine/No Jacket.

The simple and well known recipes have no contributor noted but all the special recipes have the name of the contributor (And sometimes the address). If you need a recipe for 'Yubbruck' this is the book for you. I was intrigued by the 'Skillet Cake' recipe made in a cast iron skillet and including pineapple as an ingredient. Book is loaded with local advertising. A previous owner has pasted recipes here and there in the book, mostly over ads. There are also written recipes here and there. Laid-in are a group of recipes and related items. A very much loved and much used cook book with cracked hinges; covers wear; soiling; etc. Scarce. FAIR. 1st Edition.. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket.

Chattanooga Medicine Co. Chattanooga, Tenn. 1914. First Edition., 1914 Book size about 4 3/4 by 7 inches with some 24 pages. Bound in color illustrated wraps. A combination patent medicine catalog and dessert recipe book by a company which produced patent medicines for women. Some 28 recipes in all interspersed among the many Testimonials. Book is printed on one side of each leaf with the publisher stating that the blank reverse be used by customers to write down their own recipes. Printed on very flimsy paper it is easy to see why this book is so scarce. As to the recipes there are some very interesting: Tea Jelly, Strawberry Float, A Quick Dessert, Date Souffle, etc. Advertisement at the back prices the Cardui Tonic at $1.00 a bottle!!--probably mostly alcohol. Book with moderate wear; edge wear; some small stains. As I said, very flimsy paper (Almost tissue paper in quality). In addition to a discussion of the coffee making process the book also covers the coffee pot and gives recipes for ten different types of coffee including that sold at the French Market Place in New Orleans. Most categories are easily recognizable: Soups, Oysters and Fish, Salads, Desserts, Pie, Cakes, Candies, Beverages (Some 32 categories in all). The one section I had to check out was for "Kolacky" (And now I want the wife to make me some). A very scarce early cookbook published by this Chicago area Masonic affiliated organization. A cook book prepared by a patent medicine company with the recipes interspersed with advertisements for the patent medicines. About 100 recipes in all claimed to be mostly new with a few old time New England and Southern recipes included. Illustrated with line drawings which are very similar to Maxfield Parrish drawings. First time I have seen a recipe for Oyster Shortcake. Publisher punched hole at top left for ease in hanging in the kitchen (A common practice in old time kitchens).
