Louis (1723-1792) was the "pioneer in applying medical knowledge to court-room practice" in France, and wrote a notable dictionary. (Garrison 371, 372.) Of the respondent Chaupin we know nothing. Peters (1819-1893), a pioneer American epidemiologist and apostate homeopath, wrote a number of books on cholera, this being his first.
