Importantly, this edition of The Patchwork Girl of Oz has the error of the “C” in the word “Chap. Three” overlapping onto the text. The Patchwork Girl of Oz is only the seventh of the Wizard of Oz books, with the first Wizard of Oz book being The Wonderful Wizard of Oz published in 1900. The Patchwork Girl of Oz measures 7.00 x 9.25 inches (approximately), 340 numbered pages with the synopsis for the Wizard of Oz books The Land of Oz, Ozma of Oz, Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, and The Emerald City of Oz. This early Wizard of Oz book has its original green binding.  The front board has a large illustration of The Patchwork Girl by John R. Neill.  The spine is also decorated by John R. Neill.  The Patchwork Girl binding is in Very Good condition with fading to the spine, wear to the top and bottom of the spine, a red mark to the top right of the front board, light corner knocks and edge wear, and light marks to the back board. Otherwise, an extremely clean and attractive first edition first state binding for this early Wizard of Oz book. The Patchwork Girl of Oz is packed with large one-page and smaller colour illustrations, together with numerous black and white illustrations by John R. Neill. The pages are in overall Very Good condition with only light age toning to the pages. This is a very rare and collectable Wizard of Oz book, being number 7 in the series of Wizard of Oz books by L. The Rupert Bear First Day Cover Album was promoted by the Daily Express newspaper in England which includes the Rupert the Bear artist John Harrold autograph. Within the original red album are: Specially designed printed front page entitled Rupert and the Postage Stamps with two Rupert Bear illustrations by Rupert Bear artist John Harrold which has wear to the file holes; Two Guernsey Post Office Rupert the Bear First Day Covers with Badger and Rupert cancellations which are both dated 2nd February 1993; Two Guernsey Post Office Rupert the Bear First Day Covers with an alternative design to the above bearing a Rupert and Friends mini sheet of stamps and cancelled by the Guernsey Post Office Philatelic Bureau date stamped 2 Feb 1993; A Children’s Literature First Day Cover that includes the Rupert and Badger stamp with the British Philatelic Bureau cancellation dated 2 Feb 1993; Two Royal Mail Children’s Literature Presentation Packs; Royal Mail Children’s Literature Presentation Pack with an alternative design to the set above; Rupert the Bear Guernsey Post Office Presentation Pack featuring a Rupert colour illustration containing a mint mini sheet of Rupert and Friends stamps and a single £0.24 Rupert the Bear stamp. The front of the Guernsey Post Office Presentation Pack is signed by the Rupert Bear artist John Harrold and is dated Canterbury 5th November 1994; A Guernsey Post Office Card as above but unsigned; and A Guernsey Post Office Promotional Leaflet for the Rupert Bear Stamps of 1993. All pieces are in Mint condition (except where mentioned to the wear to the file holes of the front page to the special Rupert album), and except for the red folder that is in Near Mint condition with the remnants of the gum of a label to the reverse of the album which is barely visible and only mentioned for completeness and may be able to be removed completely. The contents and album are very attractive and in highly collectable condition. It is interesting to note that the issue of the stamps and album came just after the 70th Anniversary of the very first Rupert the Bear book which was Mary Tourtel The Adventures of Rupert The Little Lost Bear published in 1921. This is a very attractive and collectable group of Rupert the Bear collectables that will make a great addition to a collection of Rupert the Bear memorabilia or any toy collection. EPH067

This Popeye’s Cruise cartoon book was published by Birn Brothers in circa 1941.  This book is not dated but has a neat inscription to the blank front free endpaper dated “Xmas 1941”. The Popeye’s Cruise front board features Popeye rowing a boat with a tin of spinach near him and is accompanied by Wimpey who is asleep. The Popeye’s Cruise colour illustration is pasted onto the front cover which has very slight loss to the bottom left corner and there is some rubbing to this paper. But, the colours are still vibrant and are very attractive for this rare wartime Popeye book.  Popeye’s Cruise has the original red cloth spine that has some fading and a mark, and there are some old marks to the back board. These boards are sound and attractive and in Very Good condition. This collectable Popeye’s Cruise comic book contains illustrations throughout and features many of the main characters such as Popeye, Olive Oyl, Castor Oyl, Swee’pea, Toar, Wimpy and many others. There are 156 numbered pages with an illustrated Title Page and 15 chapters in this vintage Popeye comic book. Throughout the Popeye’s Cruise story book are numerous black and white and tinted one-page and smaller illustrations, and the following 4 full page full colour Popeye illustrations Biff!  Bang!  Wham!  Wallop!! Wimpy Constitutes a New World Record, Popeye Becomes King, and Inside the Chest Were Precious Stones of All Kinds. The Popeye’s Cruise comic book pages are in overall Very Good condition with foxing and marks, and other imperfections.  However, this vintage book has no major structural issues and is a very enjoyable read. The Adventures of Rupert the Little Lost Bear is the first ever Rupert the Bear Book. This is the first edition of The Adventures of Rupert the Little Lost Bear published by Thomas Nelson in 1921. The Adventures of Rupert the Little Lost Bear contains the original Rupert Bear stories taken from the Daily Express Newspaper where they originally appeared in 1920. The Adventures of Rupert the Little Lost Bear original binding is cream in colour and the front board is profusely illustrated with the early illustration of Rupert Bear holding a hoop in his left paw and a stick in his right walking in the snow in his trademark checked trousers, and with other smaller illustrations including Rupert rubbing his eyes. The Adventures of Rupert the Little Lost Bear binding is in Very Good condition with the colours being bright and vivid but with slight dust staining to the boards, edge wear, knocks to the corners and to the top and bottom of the spine, and an almost invisible neat repair to the paper spine at the top. The Adventures of Rupert the Little Lost Bear has 87 numbered pages but there are 88 in total, each of the text pages from the Rupert stories has a colour illustration underneath. The pages are in overall Very Good condition with medium browning to the endpapers, an inscription in pencil to the front free endpaper, and very slight and occasional marks to the pages which are tightly bound-in and still have a relatively fresh feel for a book of this age. Margot the Midget is a rare Rupert the Bear children’s illustrated book. This is the Margot the Midget and the Little Bear’s Christmas first edition book published by Thomas Nelson in London in 1922. Margot the Midget is one of the earliest appearances of Mary Tourtel‘s Rupert the Bear in book form from 1922, and it is interesting to note that the title of the book omits the name of Rupert and is simply referred to as the “Little Bear”. Margot the Midget front board has a main illustration of Margot taking a walk with the Friendly Dog with other animals, which is in a border and with the printed signature of Mary Tourtel to the bottom right corner. Additionally, there is an illustration to the top left corner of the front board of a very early Rupert the Bear, a squirrel to the top right corner, and two ducks to the bottom left corner. The original binding is in Very Good and attractive condition with knocks to the top of the spine and very minor edge wear. The front board has minor surface wear to the “our” in Tourtel. This is an extremely attractive binding for this very early Rupert book. Margot the Midget has 68 numbered pages. The front pastedown bears an inscription. The front free endpaper is inscribed in pencil and is dated “Xmas 1922”. The pages are in overall Very Good to Near Fine condition. RB001
