The School of St Agnes in Albany, New York, was founded in 1870 as "...a school for girls, which, while furnishing all the best in intellectual education and womanly accomplishments, would combine them with religious instruction and training...". It's founder was the Rt Rev. William Doane, the Bishop of Albany, and his addresses to the first ninteen graduating classes are printed here.

Generalogical research project dealing with the life and Father Joseph Biggio (1824-1866), a catholic priest who is considered the first direct immigrant from Italy to Rochester, New York. Biggio arrived in the Rochester area in 1849, was ordained by bthe Bishop of Timon of the Archdiocese of Buffalo and his first pastorate was St. Ambrose's (locally known as The Church of the Woods). In 1855, he moved to Bordentown, New Jersey to begin his second pastorage at St. Mary's Church. Biggio died in May, 1866.

Detached green narrow silk marker ribbon laid in. Two parts bound in one, 211 and 206 pp.Text in Latin. A tight copy, soem rubbing to the binding, more so at edges and tips. Contemporary "Ex Libris" notation and signature on title page. Turin-born Guiseppe Cerutti (1738-1792) was himself a Jesuit and became a professor at their college in Lyon. This work was a response to the widespread attacks on the order.

Good. 24 mo. in original full tree calf covered boards 232 pp. (text is the first 222 pages in this printing followed by 10 pp. Subscriber List) The ownership signature of one John Kemp appears at the top edge of the first page of text. Bookplate from the private library of Henry F. Clark front pastedown. The binding is well worn about the the spine, especially the edges and has some other spotting here and there on the boards. The text is generally clean without appreciable foxing. Highly popular response and refutation of the second part of Paine's "Age of Reason" and his deist criticism of "revealed religion". One of the first American editions, published the same year as the British. The American edition was published by a number of American printers in 1796 with, we believe, priority undetermined.

Deaccessioned from a church archive and so stamped on the versos of the title pages. Text blocks are complete and relatively clean, some typical embrowning to the print blocks. Sold as is.
