Boston: Samuel Walker, 1834. 2 volume set, quarter letter bindings (tight, some rubbing), new endpapers. Binding tight, probably original. Some foxing, most evident on margins and versos of the b&w engraved plates (and probably heaviest on the first volume plate of George Washington). Text very clean, but with some diffuse browing. This is the first American edition, which was revised and updated. All 40 plates and the nice map of North America are present. A nice set of an increasingly uncommon pair of volumes. . Very Good/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

Stuttgart: Carl Hoffman, 1864. VG- with mild marginal browning. The first sheet shows various climatological and meteorological phenomena, including a sandstorm, rainbow, northern lights, rainstorm and others. The second sheet of steel-plate engravings shows 9 separate geological formations including Gigraltar and numerous rock formations. The second plate shows an African forest scene, Niagra Falls, the Himalayas and others. This is plate 18 from the 1864 edition of Humboldt's "Atlas zu Alexander von Humboldt's Kosmos...".
