New York: Books on Tape, 2003. Libray Edition. Audio Cassettes. Near Fine. By the Light of the Moon illustrates Dean Koontz's ability to tell a story--unlike other stories. Stephen Lang's unique talent brings Koontz's characters to life. Dylan OConnor, an artist on his way to an arts festival in New Mexico with his autistic brother, Shep, crosses the path of a 'mad scientist' bent on proving his genius, by injecting his mysterious substance into Dylan, a substance that if it doesn't kill him, will change him in unknown ways. The madman then runs into stand-up comedian, Jillian Jackson, and she, too, is injected. This mad genius has warned them both that they have very little time to get away before his enemies arrive -- enemies who will destroy them because of the substance in their bodies. Fleeing with Shep, Dylan meets up with Jilly, just in time to see big black Suburbans swarm into town. While Dylan and Jilly have the first of several arguments--great fun to listen…

Description:
UK: Penguin Books Ltd, 1969. Later printing. Paperback. Very Good +. At first, The Flight of the Falcon is rather dull. It starts out well, but the storyline is very slow-paced and you have to have some patience with it. It is nevertheless a fascinating novel. Character study is big in this story. The author develops the psychological aspects of the characters so well that their complexity is wonderful. I won't discuss what these complexities are, for that would ruin the fun of reading it for yourself. Another great thing about this book is the atmosphere. The portrait of The Temptation of Christ (which I think isn't based on a real portrait) and its implications play a major role in the story, only as backdrop. It is, in truth, the main theme in this book. The beautiful descriptions of Italy, deep character study, and the sinister and suspenseful plot turn this into an amazing gothic tale. I think this is one of Daphne du Maurier's most accomplished if underrated efforts, a reminder of…

Description:
New York: Berkley, 2003. Paperback. Near Fine. On his thirty-sixth birthday, Travis Cornell hikes into the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains. But his path is soon blocked by a bedraggled Golden Retriever, who will let him go no further into the dark woods. That morning, Travis had been desperate to find some happiness in his lonely, seemingly cursed life. What he finds is a friend, a dog of alarming intelligence, and a threat that could only have come from the darkest corners of man's imagination. Near fine book, with lightest sign of edge wear.
