Description:
Stated first edition (in this series). A reprint from the original (ca. 1920), translated from the original Swedish by F. H. Lyon. The author was the husband of author Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixen). Green textured paper covered boards with gilt print on the spine. Book shows little wear other than some spotting on the top page edges (only on the half adjacent to the spine). The dust jacket has two tears (1 cm each) along the lower edge and additional edge and corner wear throughout. The deckle-edged pages are clean, tight and unmarked, with 22 photos in black and white. A rather rare book. Part of a larger series of reprinted African hunting books from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The publishers included a disclaimer about their use of the original language and attitudes, much of which may be offensive by today's standards (see photo #5).

Description:
First edition. Book shows very little wear. Gray paper covered boards with red fabric at the spine, with gilt print. The dust jacket shows a little wear, mostly along the upper and lower edges of the back cover. The dust jacket is plastic over paper, and in a few places the plastic has started to peel, allowing atmospheric moisture to discolor the dyes used on the underlying paper. The deckle-edged pages are clean, tight and unmarked, and loaded with black-and-white illustrations. The author of the Amelia Peabody mysteries, Elizabeth Peters (Barbara Mertz) held a PhD in Egyptology, so was well versed in the history of exploration in the time that those mysteries were set. A rare book. This book will ship at about three pounds. Excess shipping costs are included in the list price.

Description:
Book shows its age. The brown fabric covered boards with black print on the front and spine has board showing through at three corners and is quite worn at the top of the spine (see photo #2). Hinge splits have occurred at the front and rear endpapers, with the front free endpaper being lost (see photos #3 and 4). The stitching still seems tight on the rest of the pages, a few of which have stains of unknown origin. A fairly rare book.

Description:
If you are looking for a rare book, this just might be it. This is a novel from a writer who is not known for writing novels. Creswicke is mainly known for writing an eight-volume accounting of the Transvaal War.in South Africa. He also wrote a biography of some dude named Joseph Chamberlain, which itself runs to four volumes. I can find no indication that Creswicke ever wrote another novel, and very little information of this one. This novel does predate the works mentioned above. As far as I can tell, there are no other copies of this novel on the market today. The fabric of this book shows the wear of its 123 years, and a small tear at the upper edge of the spine can be seen in the second photo. The pages are all intact, although cut crudely, which may have been the technology of the time. A former nursing home library copy.
