A pristine copy of this classic edition from the Heritage Club. The book shows no wear that I can find other than some fading over the spine. Comes in a black slipcover which also shows no obvious wear. The pages are clean, tight and unmarked, with speckled edges. The boards are covered with patterned paper and black fabric over the spine. The front cover has a leather inset with an embossed profile image of Holmes, with pipe, but no deerstalker. Included is the Sandglass periodical that came with every Heritage Club book. This book will ship at over three pounds. Excess shipping costs are included in the list price. A rather scarce item.

Ex-Library book. First edition, rather rare. Dust jacket encased in mylar. Little wear to book or jacket, in spite of starting life as a library book. A nice book.

Has no effect on reading and doesn't show when shelved.The first in the series, where Anne is taken in as an orphan. And so, a series begins. The book is what they describe as an "adapted version", but there is no explanation as to what they mean by that. It is in large print and with many illustrations. It may be abridged, or it may have has the language modernized. I do not have a non-adapted version to use for comparison.

I went to research the market for this book and found that there are many offered for sale out there, with many different appearances. Quite a few are being claimed as First Editions, which they clearly aren't, since they don't even look alike. Different cover designs, different dust jacket art. They can't all be firsts, and, in fact, none of them are. Grossett & Dunlap didn't do firsts often, if ever. They also didn't provide print counts, later publication dates, or anything else to tell you when a given copy was published. (This means that heirloom Wizard of Oz you have at home is not likely a first edition, either.) The original First Edition was printed in Berlin, in German, in 1923. The First American Edition was published in 1928 by Simon & Schuster. Therefore, this is not a first edition. Some wear at the edges and corners, and a few spine creases. A tear along the lower rear edge of the spine has been repaired with tape. 237 pages are clean, tight and unmarked. The third of six Charlie Chan novels by Biggers. Carlie Chan, the hero of the Honolulu Police Department, is in San Francisco to solve the murder of a Scotland Yard detective who had been on the trail of a murderer for fifteen years. In order to solve the current murder, Chan must solve the earlier case, too. Which he does in his usual low-key way. A rare book, with most on the market priced substantially higher.

Trade paperback, 187 pages. Little wear other than a bit of rubbing on the front and slight discoloration on the back. A village prodigy is sent to high pressure academia, which turns out to be too much. A story about how he finds his way back.

Part of a series called Elementary Classics. Book is worn, with the fabric faded on the spine, and worn through at most edges and corners. Pages are fairly tight and intact. The Introduction, Index and Notes are in English, while the actual essay is in Latin. Written by Cicero in 44 BC. The original owner's name can be found in about three places. That owner was Gertrude Pritchard, a schoolteacher in England at the beginning of the 20th century. I recently acquired a number of her books at an estate sale in Seattle.
