Pages are clean and tight.Described as a coming-of-age novel set in the Pennsylvania Dutch community, this story was made into a play titled "Erstwhile Susan". Photos from that play are included throughout the book, with the first shown in photo #2. This book has been reprinted in modern times; this is not one of those reprints.

Some minor wear. The front endpaper has split at the spine, weakening the binding slightly and making the front cover a bit loose. Everything else seems intact. A story of a girl making her way through her senior year in high school. Portrays the idealized innocent life of the 1950s.

Light blue fabric covered boards with dark blue stamped print on the front and spine. Spine significantly darkened. Some stains. Stains and foxing on the lateral page edges. The pages themselves appear to be tight and unmarked. Decorative endpapers have owner's name and brief inscription on the front. Binding split before the color frontispiece (not unusual in books of this age, see photo #6). No corresponding split at the rear. Only date given is for the first edition by Doubleday, Page & Co. Grosset & Dunlap rarely published firsts and seldom included the actual date of publication. By referencing the ads for other books found at the end, it looks as though this book was published about 1925 or shortly thereafter. A fairly rare book. This is one of a number of Stratton-Porter books I recently acquired.

Cover of pale green fabric printed with green text and green and yellow decoration on the front and spine, showing little wear, other than some darkening over the spine. The book leads off with a number of decorative pages, including the endpapers. There is a hinge split after the title page, as shown in photo #6. This is not uncommon. There is not a corresponding split in the rear. The rest of the pages are clean, tight and unmarked. Set in California, this book contains some of the descriptions of nature that Stratton-Porter is well known for. It also contains a heavy dose of anti-Asian racism, which she had not been previously known for. No illustrations other than the frontispiece. A fairly rare book.

First edition. This book has never been read. I know this because it appears to be a factory second. A tiny drop of glue landed on the bottom page ends at some point, lightly gluing some of the pages together (last 80 pages or so). Those pages are now free, albeit slightly ragged along the bottom edge. The dust jacket has the remains of a price sticker on the front (much less now than in the photo) and a 1 cm tear on the back at the lower left corner. 407 pages, clean as new now they are apart. My online source has classed this as Young Adult, but I think that it may be a bit more intense than that, in spite of the teen-aged protagonist. I'd say for mature teens.

A very thick paperback. The story is long enough, but this volume has over 60 pages of added attractions. Some minor wear at teh edges and corners, plus a number of spine creases. Pages remain tight, clean and intact. Originally published in 1839.

Book has a 4 cm tear at the bottom of the front cover where it meets the spine (see photo #3). It is also a bit warped. I shall store it under a stack to see if that can be cured. 253 pages are clean, tight and unmarked. Originally published in 1916, to no small amount of scandal.

After her "stand-in mother," a bold black woman named Rosaleen, insults the three biggest racists in town, Lily Owens joins Rosaleen on a journey to Tiburon, South Carolina, where they are taken in by three black, bee-keeping sisters. Set in segregated South Carolina of the 1960s. At the end is a 14 page readers' guide.

Book club edition. In very good condition with little sign of wear. Dust jacket a little faded, but with just a few blemishes, the largest being a 15 mm tear on the upper rear. Pages clean, bright, binding tight. 224 pages. A coming of age story about a boy growing up poor and Catholic in Protestant Scotland in the early 20th century. Told through the eyes of the child, with no small portion of dry humor

The only flaw is a manufacturing error where three sheets, starting at page 105, got creased between the printing and the binding. This meant that they didn't get cut correctly and are a bit wider than the rest of the pages (see photos #4 - 5). Still readable, as all the words are there.
