The Compleat Angler was originally published in 1653 and underwent a number of revisions over the centuries. Presented as a discussion of the virtues of fishing between the fisher Piscator, the hunter Venator and the falconer Auceps. What was once 12 chapters has grown to 32 chapters over two parts. Cover of oxblood leather with gilt on the spine. The spine has some damage at the extremities. The leather is also well worn at the corners. The pages are clean, tight and unmarked. The bookseller's sticker on the rear endpaper tells us it was originally sold at the Skylark Bookstore in Washington, D. C. No date is given within the book, but my research indicated that this was published in the 1920s.

A sailor's charts of currents around Canada's Vancouver Island and Washington's San Juan Islands. Although a few decades old, I suspect the currents haven't changed much. Very little wear, does not look as though it's been used much over the past 30+ years. Kind of rare, too. Just what your yacht needs.

Stored inside the front cover since 1928 is Yosemite Natural History Association Bulletin 2, A Distributional List of Yosemite Birds. This fifteen-page unstapled brochure was written by Enid Michael, a far more famous person than the writer of the book. Michael was the first female ranger/naturalist at Yosemite, arriving in 1920, and she wrote more about the history and natural history of Yosemite than anyone before or since. The pairing of this bulletin and book makes this a very special item.

This book appears to have been stored under something heavy and got a little damp while there. The indentation and bend can be seen in photos 2 and 3. The water stain, which I have attempted to show in photo #9, serendipitously landed in the generally blank space at the top edge at the spine. It appears to miss all the text and only scores a glancing blow on a couple of the photographs, to no detriment. Photographs on most pages, many accompanied with brief essays on the subjects. The book is a tribute to the beauty, shapes and patterns of the seashore, with a serious thought towards preservation and conservation. This appears to be a rare book, priced lower here because of the damages mentioned above.

Small amount of wear at the corners. Not bad at all for 119 years old. Light tan fabric has darkened a bit and there are a few small brown spots on the front cover. Decorations on the front and spine are still clear and bright. Pages are clean, tight and intact. No significant yellowing. A gift inscriptioninside the front cover and a quotation has been written on the half-title page. Over 50 illustrations. A rare and highly valued book.
