This is a stated first US edition of Baron Philippe: The Very Candid Autobiography of Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Rothschild (1902-1988) co-wrote the book with his companion, the British writer and theater director Joan Littlewood (1914-2002)Philippe, Baron de Rothschild was a member of the Rothschild banking dynasty who became a Grand Prix race-car driver, a screenwriter and playwright, a theatrical producer, a film producer, a poet, and one of the most successful wine growers in the world. He led a fascinating life and this is an excellent book.This copy (331 pages) has no dust jacket and the spine is somewhat faded, as is the gold lettering on the spine.Inside, the book was pressed open to the center photo spread, and again at another photo spread at the back of the book.Other than that, there's no evidence that it was read. All of the pages are clean, clear and creamy white.

This is a first edition (1966) of I, The King, a best-selling work of non-fiction by the American writer Frances Parkinson Keyes (1885-1970). It tells the story of the Philip IV of Spain (1605-1665), an accomplished and talented man who gave us the Golden Age of Spanish culture--and then was blamed for the decline of Spain. His story is told in the context of the four women who most affected his life.
This copy is in excellent condition. The dust jacket (unclipped) has the shelfwear that you see. It did encounter a spill, which stained the inside of the back of the dust jacket, and the front endpapers as far as the Contents page. The paper has darkened, according to its age.

Other than that, it's perfect. Clean covers with no shelfwear, and no marks of any kind on the rest of the pages.

This is an unopened copy of the Luxury Edition of Marie Antoinette, created by Edita Lausanne and published by Viking in 1971.
It covers her entire life and contains masses of images, black and white and color, plus maps and letters, many of which are pull-outs. It is on very high-quality paper. It's an expensive book.
It is still in the publisher's original cardboard slipcase. It has never been read, or taken out of the slipcase. There is some darkening to the paper of the spine, just from sitting on a shelf for so long. The book is in mint condition.

To mark the occasion of her 100th birthday in 2000, Toronto's Dundurn Press published this illustrated biography of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
It is an album-sized (8 1/2" x 11") commemorative keepsake, soft-cover.
The text and 120 photographs are complemented by time bars, lists of her official tours, associations the Queen Mother was patron of, places that are named after her, and the Royal Family tree.
This is the publisher's advance copy and includes the original press release.
It has never been read--until now, it wasn't opened.
It is pristine.

This is a stated First American Edition of SMITHSONIAN MUSIC: THE DEFINITIVE VISUAL HISTORY, published in 2013. Through text and a massive number of images, it shows how music has evolved with human society, accompanying our leisure, religious rituals, and popular festivities. It begins with pre-history and before musical notation, when melodies were memorized or improvised and goes through historical instruments, and moves through its global evolution up to electronica and heavy rock. It is a big, heavy book. This copy is mylar-wrapped and the mylar is loosening, which is why the cover looks odd in the image. It's just taped to the inside covers--you can easily remove it.
But there is no evidence that anyone ever read it. It is in mint condition.

This is the original program from the 1976 Trooping the Colour, the annual celebration of Queen Elizabeth's official birthday. I don't know if everyone got this program; this one was given to those sitting in the House of Lords section.

This is a first printing of The Virgin Queen. Elizabeth I: Genius of the Golden Age. It was written in 1991 by the brilliant British 'pearl of biographers' Christopher Hibbert (1924-2008).
The Elizabethan Age was an era of larger-than-life characters, mostly men. It is clean navy blue boards with a gold crown on the cover and gold lettering on the spine, 2 1/2 lbs.
A previous owner wrote her name on the front endpaper, which you could cover with a plate.
There is some yellowing to the edges of the pages but there are no marks of any kind inside.
The dust jacket is in excellent condition, with a few bumps but no tears. The spine of the dust jacket has some fading. Excellent condition—lovely book.
