Description:
Joseph the Provider is the fourth book in Mann's four-part series Joseph and His Brothers, which Mann wrote over 16 years and completed in 1942. He re-tells the stories in Genesis, chapters 27-50, putting them in historical context. Mann, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1929, considered it his greatest work.
This book was first published in Sweden (in German) in 1943.
In 1944, it was published in English, in the US, by Knopf. This is a first printing of that English edition.
It is 416 pages + notes.
The cover is plain black with a gold feather, and there is gold lettering on the spine. It was printed in accordance with the war-time codes on paper and printing, so it's just a nice plain book. The pages have darkened a little, but there are no marks of any kind in it or on it.
Note: I also have a leather-bound copy of Mann's The Magic Mountain listed here, as well as a first edition of The Holy Sinner, and a 1957 copy of The Beloved Returns (Lotte in Weimar).

Description:
This is a luxury edition of The Magic Mountain, written by the Thomas Mann (1875-1955), who won the 1929 Nobel Prize in Literature. This classic novel, about career invalids snowbound in the Swiss Alps, was first published in 1924 and it is considered to be one of the most influential works of 20th century German literature.
This copy was published by the Franklin Library in 1981. Although it has a bookplate on the inside front cover, (which you can easily cover) it does not appear to have been read. It has no odor, but it has come in contact with water at some point; some of the front pages are waved and the gold edging has come off portions of the sides.
It has a bound-in silk bookmark which was undisturbed until today. It is heavily illustrated in pen and ink sketches by the famed Uruguayan sculptor Gonzalo Fonseca.
It is beautifully-made, with a leather spine moving onto the covers, and a gold design on the spine and covers. It is 724 pages and weighs 3 lbs. Lovely book.
Note: I also have a 1957… Read More

Description:
This is a lovely copy of The Swiss Family Robinson, the famous book, written in 1812, by the German-Swiss writer Johann Wyss. It is about a family of Swiss immigrants who were sailing to Australia when their ship was blown off course and they were stranded in the East Indies. There is an illustration, either a black drawing or a full-color painting, on nearly every page. The illustrator was Charles Folkard, creator of the famous British comic strip Teddy Tail.341 pages. Red and gray boards with green text. There is an inscription on the front endpaper; it was given to a daughter by her parents in 1974. The daughter, presumably, had the cover professionally laminated. There are some little spots on the cover but they're barely noticeable.Other than that, this book is in pristine condition.
