Description:
Good copy of two of Kokoschka's early dramatic works. Considered important precursors of the Expressionist aesthetic; Kokoschka called his plays 'Piloten des Expressionismus' ('pilots of Expressionism'). His early literary work can be regarded as a link between Viennese Modernism and Expressionism. Some brittleness and chipping to edges of front cover. Interior intact. Vol. 41 in the Series entitled The Last Day published from 1913 to 1921 in Leipzig by publisher Kurt Wolff and his editors Franz Werfel and Max Brod. The series was to become an important forum for Expressionist literature.

Festival in German rhymes is a festival by Gerhart Hauptmann which premiered on May 31, 1913 to commemorate the centenary of Breslau and the Napoleonic Wars of Liberation. The play was discontinued on 18 June 1913 after eleven performances at the request of Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia (1882-1951) who urged the Breslau Magistrate to remove the festival from the repertoire.

Very good copy of 1922 First German Edition of Brecht's Trommeln in der Nacht (Drums in the Night ), a play written in the Expressionist style of Ernst Toller and Georg Kaiser between 1919 and 1920. It received its first theatrical production in 1922. According to Leon Feuchwanger, the play was originally entitled Spartakus. Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg of the Spacist League who were instrumental in the Spartacist uprising in Berlin in January 1919—had only recently been abducted, tortured and killed by Freikorps soldiers.
