From 1949, with Bomba the Jungle Boy, to 1955, with Lord of the Jungle, there were a string of Bomba movies - 12 in all - starring Johnny Sheffield, who, prior to Bomba, played Boy in an assortment of Tarzan movies with Johnny Weissmuller.. This was first filmed in 1938, directed by Alfred L. Werker and Otto Preminger and starring, Warner Baxter, Freddie Bartholomew, Arleen Whelan and others. And after that, it was filmed almost endlessly. Next came 1948, directed by William Beaudine and starring Roddy McDowall, Sue England and Dan O'Herlihy. Then it was made by Disney in 1960, directed by Robert Stevenson and starring Peter Finch, James MacArthur, Bernard Lee, John Laurie, Peter O'Toole, and others. In 1971, it was directed by Delbert Mann and starred Michael Caine, Trevor Howard and Lawrence Douglas. In 1978, it was a TV series, directed by Jean-Pierre Decourt and starring David McCallum, Ekkehardt Belle and Aude Landry. Again in 1995, directed by Ivan Passer and starring Armand Assante, Patrick Malahide and Michael Kitchen. But it had seemingly endless new filmings both for theatres and television.
