First published in German in 1987. First Edition in English (1988), not directly stated. Hardback with DJ. A beautiful and powerful documentary of some of the monasteries of Tibet, Bhutan, Ladakh, and Sikkim. The main body of the book consists of the intensely colorful and fascinating photograph of people and places seldom seen dispite the plethora of documentaries on these areas. Somehow the photograhs generate the sense of mystery even to those poeple (like me) who are familiar with Tibetan Buddhism. The flow of the photographs is unbroken by any text. The latter part of the book consists of text describing all of the pictures in the main part of the book with thumbnail sized black and white photograhs for reference. Stunning, this book will take you far far away and leave you in wonder.

In Thurman's view, mindful communities can continue to spark inner revolutions, and compassion and non-duality will lead to social action. He calls Buddha's "quiet revolution" a "total reorientation of the habits of individuals and entire societies." In this freewheeling presentation, laced with humor and presented before a live audience, Thurman leads meditations and takes questions from the audience. His voice--in tone, cadence and range--reminds one of Robin Williams's voice.
