Atlas of the New West: Portrait of a Changing Region.

By William E. Riebsame, (Editor).

New York, NY W.W. Norton & Company, 1997. Hardcover First Ed; First Printing indicated. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE GENERAL EDITOR, Riebsame, by the Director of Cartography, Robb and by the Essayists, Limerick and Wilkinson. First Ed; First Printing indicated. Very Near Fine in Near Fine DJ: Book shows just a hint of shelf wear; the binding is square and secure; text clean. DJ shows very mild rubbing only, else flawless; price unclipped; mylar-protected. NOT a Remainder. NOT a Book-Club Edition. NOT an Ex-Library copy. Folio. 192pp. James J. Robb, Director of Cartography. Essays by Patricia Nelson Limerick and Charles Wilkinson. Photographs by Peter Goin. Hardback with DJ. One of the best introductions to social, economic and environmental trends taking place in the Western United States. The graphs and photos highlight the new trends from water usage to ethic population patterns. The 7 chapters and two essays provide telling examples of how communtities are adapting to the changes (or not adapting in some cases). The work is footnoted to provide jumping off points for more research. Also, I found the quotes that are placed throughout the margins of the text to be extremely insightful. The book shines at showing how the West is moving away from a culture of exploiting natural resources for basic industry and instead exploiting the natural beauty to draw ever increasing numbers of residents and visitors. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE EDITOR.

War in a Time of Peace: Bush, Clinton, and the Generals.

By David Halberstam .

New York, NY Scribner, 2001. Hardcover First Ed; later printing. Fine in Near Fine DJ: Book shows binding square and secure; text clean. DJ shows only the mildest rubbing; price intact. Virtually 'As New'. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. 543pp. First Ed; later printing. Hardback with DJ. David Halberstam delivers another masterpiece in his book on how the Balkan crisis came about. This book is very fair condemning Bush Sr, Clinotn and all of the generals including Colin Powell for their actions in this area. The United States dropped the ball in stabilizing this region leaving it to the European Union to debate about. Our unwillingness to commit troops has led to more than a decade of crisis and halberstam delivers the story in great detail. Highly recommend if you are just starting to learn about the crisis as it is a very fair and well written account.

NOT a Book-Club Edition. NOT an Ex-Library copy. 8vo. 225pp. Edited by Maddalena Buzzeo. Trade Paperback. I found this book very interesting. I gave me a different out look on how life was in a small town in Italy at the turn of century. Mr. Buzzeo had a very hard life, part due because he was an Italian immigrant and partly due to his own stubborn ways. In his youth he fought the "old ways', but as he got older many of his ideas were like those of his parents - the "old ways". It seems he had a very full life and just wanted people to know how things were. It is not the golden tale of a poor immigrate comes over from Italy and makes a fortune. Any one who has older relatives that talk about the old days, should enjoy this book. I felt like I was sitting with my grandfather, telling me about his life. Even the mistakes he made were interesting, because they filled in the pattern of a fully experienced human life.
