Striking hand-colored folio lithograph from McKenney & Hall's History of the Indian Tribes of North America. Mckenney commissioned Charles Bird King to paint many of the portraits of Native Americans that were created into the published lithographs, before the original paintings were lost in a fire. Accompanied by 17 pages of folio text. Top edge gilt. A very bright clean well painted copy with no foxing or defacements.

Autograph note by a young Harrison as aide-de-camp to General Mad Anthony Wayne: "Greenville 19th July 1795. The Commissary will issue for the Ottawas thirty seven pounds of beef + flour + sixty gills of whisky." Losses to paper under some letters due to iron gall ink (see image). The note is a little more than questionable inasmuch as Harrison (who would later become an opponent to whisky sales to the natives) was to shortly (August 3, 1795) be a signatory to The Treaty of Greenville wherein the indigenous tribes would surrender much of their land to the United States. Frame: 11.75 x 17.75; Note window: 3.25 x 8.75; note itself 3.7 x 9 inches. Portrait window: 5.5 x 6 inches.

Full brown leather with gilt title to front cover. Occational lack of gilt to title and leather to covers and spine. A clean copy with no previous owners' names or other defacements. Scarce.

Original copy from 1792 of Columbian Centinel. Contains an article titled "Agreeable Intelligence, (If True.)," which is one man's account of 3 spies being directed to a Native American encampment for intelligence. Once informed, General Scott divided his troop into 3 divisions who then attacked them by surprise and thus were victorious in defeating the Native Americans and re-obtaining U.S. provisions, stores, cattle, etc. that were previously stolen. At the end of this article is a pink asterisk that references some handwritten text at the base of the newspaper, which is difficult to read. Includes several other articles and advertisements. Light toning at previous fold lines. Small closed tears at edges of newspaper (see image). 4 pp. 11 x 17 3/4 inches.

A complete five volume set bound with purple cloth covered boards faded to brown. Gilt lettering to spines and gilt pictorials to front covers. This early edition contains 275 plates, including fold-outs and maps predominantly in black/white. This edition was reduced to five volumes from its previous six. Moderate foxing scattered throughout. Vol. I is more faded than the rest (see image). Wear to heads and tails of spines (see image). Plate 29 in Vol. V is unbound.
