Description:
London: Oxford University Press , 1947. Reprint. Hardcover. Good +. A curious mix of fact and fiction, but nonetheless an enthralling tale of a young lad press-ganged into the Royal Navy of the 18th Century. Hardback reprint of 1939 original, includes reprint of 'The Fighting Sailor Turn'd Peaceable Christian', by Thomas Lurting, first pub in 1710. Contains 248 pages, 19 x 12.5cm, with 2-colour frontispiece, several b&w, and 2-colour illustrations by Norman Hepple, plus author's foreword and afterword. Small gift inscription SIGNED by author on front free endpaper. Beige cloth boards showing minimal age-related spotting, otherwise in Good+ condition. Brown titles and front cover illustration. Head, toe and bottom corners lightly bumped. No dust jacket. Internally, Good+: clean, bright and unmarked in excellent bindings. Obviously a book that was cherished by its original owner.
