Subtitle: "A new method of physical development for boys and girls based on the Ten Elements of Simple Tumbling and adapted from the practice of professional acrobats." An unusual book: a practical system of physical training built around the circus idea. Contents include how to prepare a show with fake elephants and lions (as well as real animals), clowns, tumbling, acrobatics, and "The Old-Fashioned Minstrel Show" with dialogues. Book is VG+ in blue cloth; very attractive front cover with lots of bright gilt. Dust jacket is VG-, foxed on front cover and crinkled on back cover near bottom edge; great cover photo of 4 boys performing stunt.

One of a series of Burgess books beginning with The Neatness of Bobby Coon. VG: name erased from front endpapers with a slight amount of abrasion; pages very nice; illustrations beautiful, especially the center double-page spread; covers show slight wear, with a small abraded area in lower left corner ofback cover; spine and edges rubbed.

Octavo, 253 pages bound in woven green cloth with burgandy lettering on spine and bird image on cover. Illustrated from drawings by Raymond Sheppard. VG+/VG+: Pages are slightly yellowed, light spotting to side and bottom page edges, but interior is clean and book appears to have been hardly used. Dust jacket has a mild crease at very top of spine, and some light rubbing to spine ends. Jonathan Cape price sticker on front flap. A novel about children helping to set up a wild bird preserve in the Western Isles of Scotland, "forty miles beyond the Outer Hebrides.
