Octavo, 253 pages bound in woven green cloth with burgandy lettering on spine and bird image on cover. Illustrated from drawings by Raymond Sheppard. VG+/VG+: Pages are slightly yellowed, light spotting to side and bottom page edges, but interior is clean and book appears to have been hardly used. Dust jacket has a mild crease at very top of spine, and some light rubbing to spine ends. Jonathan Cape price sticker on front flap. A novel about children helping to set up a wild bird preserve in the Western Isles of Scotland, "forty miles beyond the Outer Hebrides.

Second edition of this scarce title in the Dumpy Books For Children. 16mo bound in buff cloth with burgundy vertical lines; 24 enchanting color plates; text and plates appear on one side of page only. Text inspired by "Flowers and Flower Lore" by Hilderic Friend. Very nice condition with light signs of wear; mild dent to top right corner; corners rubbed; top of spine a little crinkled, and spine shows slight separation at bottom of front cover. Binding secure, plates look great, a real little treasure.

An unusual book: a practical system of physical training built around the circus idea. Contents include how to prepare a show with fake elephants and lions (as well as real animals), clowns, tumbling, acrobatics, and "The Old-Fashioned Minstrel Show" with dialogues. Book is VG+ in blue cloth; very attractive front cover with lots of bright gilt. Dust jacket is VG-, foxed on front cover and crinkled on back cover near bottom edge; great cover photo of 4 boys performing stunt.

Book is near fine in very dark green textured cloth; dust jacket very good. An impressive-looking copy with some relatively minor flaws to the jacket: price clipped;1/4 inch loss at  spine ends; general darkening to white on spine and along borders (most apparent along folds); edges worn with a few small closed tears and a little chipping at corners. Titles on rear flap list to this title. Jacket has been expertly laid down under plastic cover and looks very good with bright cover illustrations. Book is tight; one corner lightly bumped, corners square otherwise; lettering on spine bold and bright black; cover paste-on gorgeous and without flaw. Neat gift inscription in adult hand on ownership page. All twelve plates in fine condition. Pages very clean and bright.

A scarce title by an illustrator known for his comical depiction of animal behavior.
