Box with a few worn spots to edges; light general wear; booklet and etchings fine; overall in very good to near fine condition.Artist Pierre Spalaikovitch (1946 - ) was born in Belgrad in a Franco - Serbian family. After working as a scenography assistant, he moved to France in 1971 and later, in 1984, to California, where he worked with various mediums, but specifically mastered the process of etching. Illustrated with drawings by celebrated photographer Marc Gambier and others. A stunning compilation of portraits of actors (and spouses) Maxine Elliott and Nathaniel Carl Goodwin from different plays they starred in together. In the early 1900s Ms. Elliott was the only woman in the US owning a theater, "The Maxine Elliott" off Broadway in New York. She toured extensively in Europe and the US, eventually signing on with Goldwyn Pictures and spending considerable time in California. First edition; 8 1/2 x 11; pp. [4], 1-149 including text to last page; original pictorial stiff wraps; gray tape spine cover; unusual two identical front covers; small signature to upper corner of front wrap; small closed cut to head of spine; corners slightly creased; few small spots; mimeographed text; profusely illustrated with drawings and diagrams by Ina Herman. Ina and Albert Herman began their work with puppets in the early 70s - first volunteering with youth church groups and 4-H groups and later teaching puppetry at the elementary school level and college level. He began making marionettes and she designed the unique costumes for each of the them. The book contains expansive sections on "Puppetry in the Elementary School," "Patterns and Instructions," and "Puppet Manipulation."

Flamen. fe., lower right corner of plate: Cum privil. Regis XII. Minor foxing to lower margin; small light spot to lower right corner of sheet; very good or better. Albert Flamen was a Flemish etcher, engraver, and painter - active in France in the mid-1600s. Most of his works consisted of series of fish, including the current "Brill" one, birds, and mammals. He also created a set of moralizing emblems (1672) - one of his very few dated works. One copy of the etching located at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

A comprehensive and influential compilation of history of silk-screening and the different methods of creating this particular form of art.

First edition, large 4to 10" x 12 1/2"; pp. 1-19, [1]; original embossed wraps, tied with a string; fading along margins of wraps, else minor wear; illustrated with photographs and facsimile signatures of the casts; very good. An uncommon item, which appears to be a commemorative program for a string of performances at the California Theatre in San Francisco in 1905, organized by actress Florence Roberts in support of the failing health of renowned actor and producer Hobart Bosworth. He began his career with small roles at several theaters in San Francisco at the end of the 19th century. Battling recurring bouts of tuberculosis he moved to San Diego, where he was contracted to make a motion picture with Selig Polyscope Company. Due to his successful attempt at this new venture, he was credited with being the star of the first movie made on the West Coast.
