English translation made by John Bellingham Inglis. Richard de Bury, also known as Richard Aungerville (1287 – 1345) was an English writer, Benedictine monk, a bibliophile, and a book collector. His "Philobiblon, originally published in 1473, was his most ambitious work on the love of books and the means and methods of collecting them. It was also the first book to discuss librarianship.
