    Herbert the Electrical Mouse (Everyday Science Stories) by Bloch, Marie; Illustrated By Millard McGee

    New York: Julian Messner, Inc., 1953. The interior of the book is crisp and clean, with no marks and very little wear. The brown cloth covers are fresh, with bumps to tips and corners, but again little general wear. The dust jacket is not price-clipped, and shows light edgewear oveall, but heavier wear to the spine. There is about 1/2 inch missing from the top of the spine, and a short tear and creasing at the bottom. The dust jacket is now in a protective plastic cover and looks very attractive. Synopsis: Hank Richards wants to be an electrician and work with his father, but Mr. Richards thinks his son is still too young to be a helper. One day Hank does a repair job for one of the neighbors and earns half a dollar. With it, he buys a bobtail white mouse named Herbert. As Hank makes use of Herbert's fur in doing static electricity experiments, he decides his pet can be trained. Hank patiently teaches his mouse to run for food at the sound of a bell. He also makes a harness and leash for Herbert and takes the mouse wherever he goes. Herbert's training is put to good use when Mr. Richards is having trouble rewiring Hank's school. How Herbert wins the title, Electrical Mouse, and how Hank becomes his father's helper make a lively, unusual story. Presents basic information on static and current electricity.
