Strange Sea Road: The Story of a Sea Venture by Warren Bednall

Jonathan Cape, London, 1936. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. The four-masted barque 'C. B. Pedersen' is one of the last of her race. After centuries of shipping under sail there are now in the whole world only nineteen of the old windjammers left in commission. Indeed one hesitates to state a specific number for fear that already it may be still further reduced. Even during this last voyage of the Pedersen two more old sailers have been broken up. But it is with colours flying that they leave us to ships that are larger, faster and rather more dependable, but which lack the sleek lines, the graceful majesty and the romance of the wind-ships. Such sailers as are now left are owned mostly by Scandinavians. There is something rather fitting in the fact that these sons of the Vikings should be the last to relinquish their love for ships under sail. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 255 pages. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Silver titles spine. green cloth; illustrated by b/w. photo's.. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilogram. Category: Ships & the Sea; Sailing Ships; Windjammers; Sailing ; 1930s; Travel & Places. Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request. Inventory No: 3850. .
